Jackdaw: A Grassroots Ecosystem

Jan 21, 2025By JackdawToken.com

Over the first year of Jackdaw's life we worked hard to collect and present all of the tools available to Jackdaw holders, and even inspired the creation of a few new ones.

From wallets, to block explorers, to faucets, exchanges and more, the JackdawToken.com website has tried to position itself as a one-stop place for everything Jackdaw while assuming no influence over the token itself. We've also done a series of software tours and demo videos for various Jackdaw tools that can be found on the JackdawToken.com X account, showcasing what can be done with Jackdaw and Ravencoin Assets tools.

We've made this effort to showcase the ecosystem surrounding the Jackdaw token in order to hightlight how users can take advantage of each platform that supports Jackdaw, and there are many.

One of the best things about the Jackdaw ecosystem is that it is made up of independant, grassroots, individual efforts. Each wallet that supports Jackdaw was designed by a different team, the same is true for block explorers and exchange tools. The Jackdaw ecosystem is grassroots and decentralized in the fact that no single authority, company, or group releases or approves software. Instead, a variety of unique individuals and teams create software that can utilize Jackdaw. The absence of any form of "official entity" is one of Jackdaws biggest strengths.

Jackdaw has no official wallet, explorer, or tools in general. Instead, Jackdaw works by default with any project that supports Ravencoin Assets. In general, if someone is building a tool that supports Ravencoin Assets, Jackdaw willl also be compatible. Some Ravencoin projects have elected to add additional support for Jackdaw, further enriching the ecosystem. When support is added for Jackdaw on any platform, we're often finding out at the same time as everyone else. Jackdaw is completely permissionless and thus no one needs to inform anyone before supporting Jackdaw, they can just do it! This has been the case with several Jackdaw tools, so always keep your eyes out for new software in the Jackdaw community.

We wanted to take some time to explore the different types of tools available to Jackdaw holders and how each contributes to the grassroots backbone of the Jackdaw ecosystem overall, let's dig in.

  • Wallets

Wallets are an integral part of any cryptocurrency ecosystem and Jackdaw is no exception. What makes Jackdaw unique is that it has no official team, development or otherwise, to push changes to the Jackdaw token. Jackdaw has no official Github, website, or social channels.

This philosophy holds true for all Jackdaw software. There is no "official" Jackdaw wallet. Instead, users have a suite of wallets that support Ravencoin Assets to choose from, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Looking for a desktop wallet? Jackdaw has that. Mobile? Jackdaw has that too! Web-based? Yup! Jackdaw even has several web-based wallet solutions. We've collected some of the best Ravencoin software available on our Wallets & Tools page. Many of the tools you'll find have been around for some time and are pillars of the Ravencoin Assets community, others are newer, or smaller, but have unique offerings not found in all Jackdaw supported wallets. We recommend finding the wallet that best fits your needs and using best-practices when it comes to wallet security.

No matter what wallet you choose you can be sure you're storing Jackdaw in one of the most decentralized ecosystems in the cryptocurrency space. Each Jackdaw wallet was created by an individual team and effort to further enhance the Ravencoin Assets ecosystem, Jackdaw sets out to highlight the software that does this right.

  • Block Explorers & Analytics

Just like Jackdaw Wallets, Jackdaw Block Explorers are created by individual teams and there is no one "official" block explorer for Jackdaw. You should be able to find Jackdaw easily by searching for "JACKDAW" on any Ravencoin Assets explorer. These block explorers support Jackdaw by default, as they support all Ravencoin Assets. Each explorer has its own pros and cons, we recommend trying them all to get a complete picture of the Jackdaw token.

Which brings us to our next point, token analytics! We were pleasantly surprised to find that RVN-DASHBOARD.com was adding support for Jackdaw. Right now the Dashboard is the only tool of its kind analyzing the Ravencoin blockchain and we couldn't be happier to see the team has added support for Jackdaw as well.

  • Exchanges

Speaking of surprises, we couldn't have been more elated or surprised to find out Jackdaw was being listed on the Neoxa Asset Portal exchange. We found out just like everyone else, through their X accounts announcement of Jackdaw support. We're certainly excited to step into this new era of price discovery with Jackdaw and the Neoxa Asset Portal. The instant trading and liquidity pools offer the Jackdaw community chances to earn and trade on a platform that will grow with Jackdaw.

Jackdaw has always tried to enable users as much as possible with the current tools available in the ecosystem. On the long road to an exchange listing, Jackdaw was tradable on a few different platforms, and still is. Users can trustlessly swap using Atomic Swaps in Electrum and some users opted to trade this way early on. The NFT marketplace RocketRaven.net made changes to their code to allow for Jackdaw trading and auctions, they were one of the only websites where Jackdaw could be bought and sold early on.

Later, the Jackdaw Exchange Channel was created in the Jackdaw Discord using the NiftyMinter Discord app. Users could list and buy Jackdaw tokens with just a wallet and a Discord account.

Most recently Jackdaw was listed on the new Neoxa Asset Portal exchange platform, ushering in a new era of Jackdaw trading. We're proud that Jackdaw was one of the first Ravencoin tokens to be listed on both their $NEOX and $RVN pairs. Thats right, as of this writing Jackdaw currently has two active exchange markets, $JDAW/$RVN and $JDAW/$NEOX, where users can instantly swap their Jackdaw, or add it to a liquidity pool and earn on trading fees.

We wanted to take a minute to highlight the fact that the Jackdaw markets on the Neoxa Asset Portal have been built entirely by individual volunteers. No listing fee or liquidity threshold was met prior to the listing (Jackdaw had no ICO & no fund set aside for listings, marketing, or development), the Neoxa Asset Portal simply announced the Jackdaw listing and it was up to the community to provide liquidity to the Jackdaw markets, and they did! At one point roughly 10% of the total supply of Jackdaw had reached the exchange liquidity pools, a huge showing of support from the Jackdaw community. An initial exchange listing was always shaky ground for Jackdaw, as no one truly knows how many "active" Jackdaw users there are, much of the supply was airdropped to old Ravencoin wallets and those users may not even realize they are holding Jackdaw. Its been wonderful to see a healthy amount of the overall Jackdaw supply reach the Neoxa Asset Portal for trading.

So it goes without saying, but:

We wanted to take a minute to thank everyone participating in Jackdaw liquidity pools on the Neoxa Asset Portal. Now that we have an exchange listing with liquidity pools,  we are transitioning to the market-building era for Jackdaw. This means any user currently has the capacity to help build with the Jackdaw project by helping us grow vibrant markets on our first exchange. We're very excited to see Jackdaw listed on a fledgling product like the Neoxa Asset Portal and hope to grow with the platform as it matures.

Jackdaw currently has a suite of different trading tools available to users, from p2p based options all the way up to more traditional web-based exchanges. We hope to continue our momentum in 2025 and see Jackdaw (and Ravencoin Assets in general) supported more widely across the exchange ecosystem.

  • Grassroots ethos into 2025

We aim to continue and foster the grassroots ecosystem around Jackdaw in 2025. Whether its our software demo videos, advocating for Jackdaw software support, pursuing additional exchange listings, or bringing entirely new experiences for holders, we hope to further expand Jackdaw's grassroots backbone into an vibrant ecosystem that any cryptocurrency user can get started with and engaged in.
